HMS Dragon, a British Royal Navy Type 45 destroyer, has arrived in the eastern Mediterranean for routine maintenance and logistics after experiencing technical issues with its water systems.

The UK deployed the warship to reinforce security around RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus following a drone attack on March 1, but crew completed essential work in six days instead of the usual six weeks. Despite a minor issue with onboard water systems, the ship remains at high readiness and can sail at short notice if needed, the Ministry of Defence said.

During the stop, HMS Dragon will take on provisions, optimize systems and conduct maintenance. Its advanced counter-drone and air defence capabilities, including a Sea Viper missile system, will also be further optimized. The UK maintains a robust defensive presence in the region, coordinating with allies to defend against Iranian-made drones and other weapons.
