Cape air plane returns to nantucket after door malfunction

A Cape Air flight en route to Boston had to make an emergency return to Nantucket Memorial Airport Monday morning after part of the main cabin door opened during takeoff.

Passengers describe calm pilot, quick resolution

Flight 5001 departed Nantucket at around 9:30 am, but shortly after leaving the ground, the upper part of the door swung open, prompting the pilot to turn the plane back.

Despite the unsettling incident, the aircraft landed safely without further issues. Cape Air spokespersons assured that the safety of passengers and crew remains the top priority.

Passenger Lizbet Fuller captured video of the event, which she shared on Instagram. 'Just another flight from Nantucket,' she joked, noting that the close proximity allowed for some unique shots without a drone.

Fuller praised the calm demeanor of the pilot, saying 'he made everyone feel at ease.' She noted that passengers were quickly rebooked onto another flight to reach Boston.
