Teen faces new charges in connection to girlfriend's death
A Long Island teenager already convicted of fatally shooting his ex-girlfriend is now accused of plotting to burglarize her family's home, authorities revealed Friday.
Austin lynch added to conspiracy charges
The Suffolk County district attorney’s office announced the additional charges against 18-year-old Austin Lynch of Nesconset, who was previously convicted of murder in the November 2025 shooting death of 18-year-old Emily Finn of Sayville. Lynch now faces a conspiracy charge stemming from allegations he conspired with an unnamed individual to burglarize Finn’s family’s residence.
According to prosecutors, Lynch allegedly provided detailed information about the home’s layout and contents, instructing the co-conspirator on how to gain entry. The details were reportedly shared while Lynch was incarcerated.
The conspiracy charge carries a maximum sentence of four years in prison. Lynch was convicted of shooting Finn in the back of the head with a shotgun at his Nesconset home on November 26th, 2025. He then shot himself. Finn was pronounced dead at the scene.
The relationship between Lynch and Finn lasted from 2022 until early November 2025, when Finn ended the relationship. Following the breakup, Lynch allegedly engaged in obsessive calls and texts to Finn. The day of the shooting, Finn visited Lynch's home to discuss the breakup, according to the district attorney's office.
Lynch was initially deemed not competent to stand trial in January, with a review scheduled in one year unless he regains competency.
Finn was a student at SUNY Oneonta, pursuing a degree in education. She graduated from Sayville High School and was a dancer with the American Ballet Studio in Bayport.
