Tcu women stun virginia, advance to elite eight

West Point, Virginia – Number 3 seed TCU’s high-powered backcourt duo of Marta Suarez and Olivia Miles propelled the Horned Frogs to a 79-69 victory over Virginia on Saturday, securing their spot in the Elite Eight of the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament.

Suarez poured in 33 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while Miles added 28 points, 10 rebounds, and 7 assists. The dominant performance sets up a Monday showdown against the top-seeded South Carolina, a rematch of their December loss.

Dominant duo fuels tcu’s elite eight advance

The Horned Frogs established an early lead, bursting out of the halftime break with a decisive 17-4 run. Virginia, the only double-digit seed to reach this stage, fought back, closing the gap to six points late in the game. Kymora Johnson led Virginia with 18 points and 8 assists, but the Cavaliers couldn't overcome TCU’s size advantage, outrebounding them 38-27.

This marks TCU's second consecutive appearance in the Elite Eight. The team’s transfer strategy appears to be paying off handsomely, with both Suarez and Miles poised to be WNBA draft targets. The Horned Frogs’ size and the exceptional play of their star players proved too much for Virginia to handle.

The game’s momentum shifted dramatically in the second half. While Virginia held a narrow 36-35 lead at halftime, TCU’s offensive surge proved unstoppable. The victory underscores the growing strength of women's basketball in the Southwest.
