Orioles acquire lefty nick raquet from cardinals

The Baltimore Orioles bolstered their bullpen with the acquisition of left-handed pitcher Nick Raquet, who was traded over from the St. Louis Cardinals.

Raquet joins albernaz's relief corps

Raquet, a 30-year-old third-round pick from the 2017 draft, made his MLB debut last season with two scoreless innings for the Cardinals. This year, he pitched to a 3.00 ERA in two relief outings for Triple-A Peoria.

Orioles manager Craig Albernaz praised Raquet's strike-throwing ability and emphasized the importance of adding another lefty to the bullpen.

To make room for Raquet, the Orioles transferred right-hander Zach Eflin to the 60-day injured list due to right elbow discomfort. Eflin is set to receive a second opinion today, with Albernaz indicating that a 60-day stay is likely.

Meanwhile, righty Brandon Young was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk after a strong outing on Monday, when he pitched five scoreless innings in a 2-1 win over the White Sox.

Young's performance highlighted the Orioles' impressive starting pitching depth, according to Albernaz.
