Mets survive bullpen mix-up, beat twins 10-8

In a dramatic ninth inning, the New York Mets managed to eke out a 10-8 victory over the Minnesota Twins, thanks to a mix-up in the bullpen that saw Huascar Brazobán take the mound instead of scheduled closer Devin Williams. The win marked the Mets' second straight after a 12-game losing streak.

Mets' late innings heroics prevail

After placing star Francisco Lindor on the injured list with a calf strain, the Mets led 6-1 in the fourth, 7-2 in the sixth, and 7-3 in the eighth before Twins rookie Huascar Brazobán allowed his first career grand slam to Ryan Jeffers in the eighth. But the Mets responded with a three-run homer by Brett Baty in the bottom half, setting the stage for Bo Bichette's tiebreaking, three-run double in the ninth.

Brazobán initially took the mound after manager Carlos Mendoza called for Williams, but the veteran right-hander simultaneously walked back out to the mound, leading to a confusing situation. Once Brazobán crossed the foul line, he was required to start the inning, meaning Williams wouldn't be eligible for a save. Brazobán retired Austin Martin on a groundout before Williams entered and struck out Luke Rasmussen. The Mets then held on to win, despite allowing the Twins to score twice in the ninth.
