Hurricanes extend streak, squelch red wings 5-2

Raleigh, NC – The Carolina Hurricanes continued their dominant run Saturday night, dismantling the Detroit Red Wings 5-2 and extending their winning streak to a remarkable 12 games. Shayne Gostisbehere fueled the offensive surge with a goal and two assists, propelling the Hurricanes to the top of the Eastern Conference.

Gostisbehere shines as hurricanes roll

Carolina built an early 3-0 lead, capitalizing on a breakaway goal from Taylor Hall and a power-play tally from Sebastian Aho in the first period, followed by a goal from Eric Robinson early in the second. Detroit managed to respond with goals from Simon Edvinsson and Patrick Kane, narrowing the gap to 3-2 by the end of the second frame. But Gostisbehere sealed the victory with a third-period goal, assisted by Hall and Gostisbehere himself, effectively quashing any Red Wings rally.

Hurricanes goaltender Frederik Andersen turned in a stellar performance, stopping 27 of 28 shots and improving his record against Detroit to 14-1-2. The Hurricanes' home ice advantage has been formidable, particularly after a shaky start to the season. They are now 10-0-1 at home since a 5-3 loss to Colorado in January.

For the Red Wings, this loss marks their fifth in seven games (2-4-1). Despite strong efforts from Jake Vincent and a 31-save performance by goalie Cam Talbot, Detroit struggled to contain the Hurricanes' relentless attack. The team now faces a road trip to Nashville on Monday.

The Hurricanes, riding a 12-game point streak (10-0-2), now hold 82 points, placing them firmly at the top of the Eastern Conference. Aho, who earned a bronze medal with Finland at the Olympics, has amassed seven points in his last six games.

Next up for the Hurricanes is a four-game road trip beginning Monday against the Seattle Kraken.
