Gelof, Butler Homers Lead A's to 5-2 Victory Over Rangers

Zack Gelof and Lawrence Butler each hit two-run home runs, and Tommy White recorded his first major league home run as the Oakland Athletics defeated the Texas Rangers 5-2 on Sunday.

The A’s secured their first home series victory since June 12-14 in Las Vegas and their first series win in West Sacramento since April 28-30. They had been 0-12-1 in their previous 13 series at the current home ballpark.

Pitching Notes

Jacob Lopez (6-4) pitched six innings, allowing two runs on five hits and striking out six, earning his first win in his last four starts. After Jake Burger hit a solo home run in the second to give the Rangers an early lead, Butler responded with a 394-foot home run that wrapped around the right-field pole. Hogan Harris secured the final out with two strikeouts for his 12th save.

Jake Burger finished 3 for 4 for the Rangers, including a solo home run. Shortstop Jacob Wilson nearly ended his major league-record errorless streak at 114 games, but the play was scored as a single. Gelof hit a 403-foot home run in the seventh, and White added a three-run home run in the eighth.
