Mets blast giants, alvarez and mclean shine
nAlvarez, the Mets' young catcher, hit his second multi-homer game of the season, with the pair of blasts coming in the fourth and seventh innings. His first homer was a solo shot to left, while his second went over the center field wall.
nMeanwhile, McLean, the rookie right-hander, showed tremendous poise in his first major league start. He retired the first 15 batters he faced, taking a perfect game into the sixth inning before walking Harrison Bader and Patrick Bailey. Though he ultimately yielded two runs, McLean's performance was an encouraging sign for the Mets' rotation.
nBo Bichette and Marcus Semien each had three hits for New York, with Semien driving in three runs, including a two-run homer in the fourth. Mark Vientos reached base safely four times, but the night belonged to Alvarez and McLean.
nNotably, star slugger Juan Soto exited early due to right calf tightness and will undergo imaging on Saturday.
