Santa monica man charged with kidnapping, rape of ucla student and 2025 attack in culver city

A 26-year-old Santa Monica man faces 37 years to life in prison after being charged with kidnapping and sexually assaulting a UCLA student and raping a woman in Culver City in 2025.

Charges include kidnapping to commit another crime, first-degree residential robbery, and multiple counts of sexual assault

According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, Alexander William Schecter was charged with kidnapping to commit another crime, first-degree residential robbery, two counts of forcible oral copulation, and two counts of forcible rape. The alleged crimes took place in March and October of 2025.

Prosecutors allege that Schecter used great violence and cruelty in the attacks, with victims who were particularly vulnerable.

Schechter was initially arrested in March after allegedly kidnapping and sexually assaulting a UCLA student. He was released on bail but rearrested two weeks later when evidence linked him to the 2025 rape in Culver City.

His arraignment and bail review hearing was scheduled for Monday but continued to May 4 with bail set at $70,000, with prosecutors planning to request an increase.
