Rideshare driver accused of sexual assault after intoxicated woman's boyfriend leaves car
A 29-year-old Denver Uber driver, Javier Delgado-Cordoba, is now facing three felony counts of sexual assault after allegedly driving away with an intoxicated female passenger while her boyfriend was out of the vehicle.
Accusations emerge after january incident
Delgado-Cordoba, who has been an Uber driver for about a year, turned himself in at the Jefferson County Jail on April 20 after a warrant was issued by the Arvada Police Department. He was released the next day on a $20,000 cash bond.
The alleged assault took place in January when the victim, who was intoxicated, requested an Uber ride with her boyfriend from a Denver area bar to a residence in Arvada. The couple arrived at the destination, and the boyfriend exited the vehicle to unlock the door, leaving the female passenger alone in the backseat.
During this brief window, Delgado-Cordoba reportedly entered the backseat and sexually assaulted the intoxicated woman, according to the police press release. When her boyfriend quickly returned, the driver jumped back into the driver's seat and fled the scene with the victim still inside.
The victim was later dropped off at a business in another city, where employees helped her contact relatives. She subsequently sought medical attention and participated in a forensic exam, which yielded DNA evidence crucial to the investigation.
Police have now warned that Delgado-Cordoba may have victimized other passengers during his time as an Uber driver. With over 1,000 completed rides, authorities believe there could be additional cases.
