Marx Selects Marine Colonel Markert as Lieutenant Governor Running Mate

Colorado Republican gubernatorial nominee Victor Marx has announced retired Marine Colonel George Markert as his running mate for lieutenant governor, a strategic move signaling a focus on military experience and a commitment to enhanced security within the state.

A Veteran’s Path to Politics

The selection of Markert, a Virginia Beach native who earned multiple advanced degrees from esteemed military institutions – including a Master of Military Studies from Marine Corps University and a Master of Business Administration – represents a significant shift in Marx’s campaign strategy. Markert’s background includes extensive service with the U.S. Marines, culminating in a role as a Chief of Naval Operations Strategic Studies Group Fellow, alongside holding a Master of National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College.

Marx emphasized Markert’s “proven leadership” and “integrity,” stating that the former Senate candidate brings “more than 30 years of leadership experience, including commanding large organizations, managing complex operations, and delivering results under pressure.” He further asserted that Markert shares the campaign’s dedication to “making Colorado safer, more affordable, and more accountable.”

Competing in a Tight Race

Marx is currently vying for the governorship against Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser, a Democrat, and independent candidate Greg Lopez, a former Republican congressman. The race is shaping up to be fiercely contested, with Lopez’s independent status potentially disrupting the traditional Republican-Democrat dynamic. The addition of Markert, a figure with a strong military pedigree, underscores the seriousness with which Marx is approaching this competition.
