Ilhan Omar Accuses ICE of Surveillance Outside Town Hall

Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar is demanding answers from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) after an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent was allegedly stationed outside her town hall meeting in Richfield, Minnesota.

Alleged Surveillance Raises Concerns

Omar claims an agent, posing as a drug investigator, was parked near the community center without prior coordination with local law enforcement. A Richfield police officer noticed the agent’s unusual behavior and identified the vehicle’s license plates as belonging to a different vehicle.

Agent’s Explanation and Lack of Notification

The agent initially claimed to be conducting an undercover drug operation but later identified herself as an HSI agent. Richfield police were not informed of the operation beforehand. Omar stated that the agent remained at the scene until speaking with her supervisor, after which she left.

Omar’s Demand for Transparency

“HSI’s actions yesterday evening put an entire community at risk,” Omar said in a letter to Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). She is demanding answers regarding the agent’s presence, how they knew about the town hall, and the actions taken in response. Omar expressed concern that the Trump administration may be using ICE to surveil political opponents and interfere with democracy.
