Florida senator walks 150 miles to amplify survivor voices

Lauren Book, a Florida State Senator, is undertaking a grueling 150-mile trek across the state, not for political gain, but to amplify the voices of survivors of sexual abuse. The 11th annual “Raising Our Voices Tour,” which began this week in the Florida Keys, is part awareness campaign, part mobile recording studio for those seeking to share their experiences.

A journey fueled by personal trauma

Book’s commitment to this cause stems from her own childhood trauma. Having endured sexual abuse herself, she channeled that pain into founding Lauren's Kids, an organization dedicated to educating both children and adults on prevention. The walk, a symbolic act of resilience, is designed to create a safe space for survivors and draw much-needed attention to a pervasive and often-silenced issue.

“We want people sharing their stories,” Book stated during a stop in the Keys, emphasizing the tour's core mission.
