A 77-year-old Florida man, Charles Durand Wilkinson, is facing aggravated assault charges after allegedly threatening a woman with a revolver during a domestic incident in the Florida Keys on Tuesday.

Wilkinson arrested after domestic dispute
According to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, the incident occurred around 2:50 p.m. near Mile Marker 38 on U.S. 1. The victim reported that Wilkinson, a resident of Okeechobee, brandished a revolver and uttered a threat: “I aught to shoot you.”
The woman managed to disarm Wilkinson and throw the firearm into nearby bushes. Responding deputies recovered the weapon.
Wilkinson was subsequently arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. No serious injuries were reported in the incident.
The arrest highlights the persistent risk of domestic disputes escalating to violence, even in relatively isolated communities like the Florida Keys. The swift actions of the victim in disarming the suspect undoubtedly prevented a tragedy.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers inherent in firearms and the importance of de-escalation techniques in volatile situations.
