Fbi boosts reward in teen triple murder case

A $50,000 reward has been upped by the FBI in the search for Abel Elias Acosta, a 18-year-old wanted in connection with a 2021 triple homicide in Garland, Texas.

Suspect on the run, father charged

Acosta, who fled the scene of the crime at just 14 years old, is now considered armed and dangerous. The initial shooting, which occurred on December 26, 2021, at a Texaco gas station, claimed the lives of three teenagers – ages 14, 16, and 17.

Investigators identified both Abel and his father, Richard Acosta Jr., through surveillance footage. Richard, now serving a life sentence without parole, drove his son to the convenience store and then sped away after the shooting, allegedly attempting to conceal his involvement.

A father's deceptive account

Richard Acosta initially claimed he was unaware his son possessed a firearm or that he had inflicted any injuries. He stated only that the teenager requested immediate transport after witnessing a confrontation. However, prosecutors successfully argued that he actively aided Acosta’s escape from the country, effectively obstructing justice.

The case gained significant momentum in 2023 when Richard Acosta was convicted and sentenced to life in prison. The FBI’s renewed efforts reflect a steadfast commitment to ensuring those responsible are brought to account.

“We know he has longstanding ties to the Garland area, and we urge anyone with any information to come forward,” stated FBI Special Agent in Charge R. Joseph Rohrock. “This case remains a profound wound for the victims' families and the entire community, and we will not rest until justice is served.”
