Aventura man returns from harrowing journey after us orders evacuation from middle east

Aventura resident Scott Wayne finally made it home to South Florida on Saturday afternoon, after a weeklong ordeal to escape the conflict sparked by a US-Israel joint strike against Iran.

Wayne felt abandoned by the us government

Wayne, who was in Jerusalem when the strike occurred, recounted his terrifying experience to reporters. 'I'm feeling very overwhelmed, and I'm feeling really, really let down by the United States government,' he said, adding that there were moments during the journey when he doubted he would make it back home.

Wayne's journey was marked by difficulty in coordinating an exit from the war-torn region, as he was stuck in his hotel in Jerusalem as Iran retaliated with missile strikes. He eventually traveled from Jerusalem to the Egyptian border, then to Sharm el-Sheikh, a trip of about eight hours. From there, he boarded a flight to Zurich before arriving in Miami.

Throughout his ordeal, Wayne reached out numerous times to the US State Department but received no assistance, leaving him feeling abandoned. 'There was no contact, there was no follow-through from the Trump administration. You just don't leave U.S. citizens there out to dry, and that's how I felt,' he said.

Although safely back in South Florida now, Wayne continues to worry about others still stranded in the Middle East. 'This whole thing has spiraled out of control in the Middle East. And unless you're physically there, you can't understand the gravity and the fearfulness of the situation,' he said.
