The songs that shaped my life: a personal playlist

From the moment I first heard Elvis Presley's 'Can't Help Falling in Love', I knew it was a song that would stay with me forever. Fast forward to my 30th birthday party, where my mum's rendition of Geri Halliwell's 'It's Raining Men' brought the pop star herself on stage.

A soundtrack of memories

As I reflect on my life's soundtrack, each song holds a special place. 'Sadeness (Part I)' by Enigma, with its Gregorian chanting and sensual undertones, was a forbidden delight that my grandmother might not have approved of. But it sparked a lifelong curiosity about Music.

My first infatuation was with 'Fantasy Island' by Tight Fit, a song that ignited a 'little gay self' with its zebra-print-clad video star. The Netflix series 'La Casa De Papel' (Money Heist) became a lockdown obsession, and its theme song 'My Life Is Going On' by Cecilia Krull reduces me to tears every time.

When it comes to romance, I'll admit that singing my own voice during intimacy with a random one-night stand was a definite turn-off. But the song that changed my life forever was 'All Rise', the techno-infused anthem that launched Blue's global phenomenon and my own personal 'Bluemania'.

At parties, I'm always up for a musical theatre sing-along, particularly 'Defying Gravity' from Wicked. And while 'Doctor Jones' by Aqua might be a guilty pleasure, I've never met a fan who doesn't love its quirky charm.

As for my funeral, I think 'Bohemian Rhapsody' by Queen would be the perfect send-off - a left-field choice that's both dramatic and memorable, without being too morose. And with Blue's new album 'Reflections' out now and a UK tour planned, it seems my musical journey is far from over.
