A new venue, familiar sounds
The Mystic Lake Amphitheater, poised to become Minnesota's largest outdoor music venue with a capacity of 19,000, is opening its doors this summer with a full slate of 30 events. Machine Gun Kelly is slated to kick things off on June 22, but Dylan's appearance is undoubtedly the centerpiece. Built by Minneapolis-based Swervo Development Corporation on land acquired from Canterbury Park, the amphitheater promises “breathtaking 360-degree views of the Minnesota River Valley,” a detail that seems fitting for a poet whose lyrics have long painted vivid landscapes.
But the concert is more than just a showcase of a new venue; it’s a return for Dylan. The singer-songwriter, raised in Hibbing, Minnesota, launched his 2026 tour in March and notably performed at Minneapolis' Huntington Bank Stadium last year for the 40th anniversary of Farm Aid, an event he helped inspire. He’s woven himself into the fabric of the state’s music history, and this performance feels like a continuation of that legacy.
Joining Dylan will be Lucinda Williams, a celebrated Americana artist known for her raw and emotive songwriting, and the John Doe Folk Trio, adding further depth to the evening’s musical offerings. Tickets, currently unreleased, will be available via a presale starting Wednesday at 10 a.m., followed by a general sale on Friday at the same time. The development of Mystic Lake Amphitheater reflects a growing demand for large-scale entertainment venues in the region. Beyond the expansive views, Swervo Development emphasized “expansive hangout spaces both indoors and outside,” and “full season packages in luxury suites and boxes,” suggesting an ambition to create a premium experience.
