Michigan road rage: armed man arrested after interstate incident

A 60-year-old man was apprehended following a volatile road rage incident on I-75 in Monroe Township, Michigan, Friday afternoon. The arrest underscores a disturbing trend of escalating confrontations on public roadways.

Handgun brandished during confrontation

According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began around 4:25 p.m. when a driver, later identified as Dale Peterson from Decatur, Alabama, allegedly produced a handgun during an exchange with an 911 caller. Peterson’s vehicle, a GMC truck, pulled alongside the caller’s car near the 10-mile marker of the northbound interstate.

The 911 operator provided critical details – a license plate number and a precise description of the truck – allowing deputies to quickly locate the vehicle. Deputies ultimately intercepted Peterson on North Dixie Highway, near Brest Road, where they discovered the handgun within the truck.

Lack of concealed carry permit

Peterson did not possess a valid concealed pistol license, leading to his immediate arrest. He is currently being held at the Monroe County Jail, and the investigation is ongoing. Authorities are appealing to the public for any additional information related to the incident.

“We take these types of incidents extremely seriously,” stated Sheriff Joel Sargent in a brief statement. “The safe operation of our roadways demands respect and responsible behavior. This individual’s actions put himself and others at significant risk.”
