Authorities arrested Herrada on April 24th, charging him with aggravated assault and battery after he allegedly swung a machete at another man during a heated argument. The incident, which occurred around 10:42 p.m., unfolded on a vessel in the Florida Keys.

Witness accounts suggest the dispute escalated rapidly, with Herrada reportedly “snapping” and wielding the weapon against his victim. Investigators detailed a subsequent chase and further assault involving an unidentified object, forcing the victim to escape the vessel. Remarkably, no serious injuries were reported.

Repeat offender adds to key’s machete concerns

This latest incident follows a similar machete-related arrest earlier this month in Key West. Elijah Lee Tobridge, 47, was apprehended on Big Coppitt Key after allegedly attacking milk crates with a machete. Tobridge, a previously convicted felon, was charged with possession of a concealed weapon and improper exhibition of a deadly weapon.

The spate of violence raises serious concerns within the Florida Keys community. While Tobridge's case involved a less direct confrontation, both incidents highlight a troubling trend. Sheriff’s officials are investigating whether these events are connected, though no immediate link has been established.
