Murder conviction overturned after nearly two decades as new evidence clears man

A Hennepin County judge has vacated the murder conviction of Jerrell Michael Brown, who spent nearly 18 years behind bars for a crime prosecutors now say he did not commit.

Brown, 38, was convicted of first-degree murder in the 2008 shooting death of Darius Ormond Miller in Minneapolis. However, thanks to advancements in 3D microscopy technology, two experts were able to reexamine ballistics evidence from the shooting and concluded the bullet that killed Miller could not have been fired by Brown, according to the Hennepin County Attorney's Office.
