Measles outbreak in sacramento county rises to five cases

Health officials are sounding the alarm after a fifth child contracted measles in Sacramento County this year, sparking concerns of a local outbreak.

Unvaccinated kids drive rise in cases

All five cases involved children who lacked immunization, said Dr. Olivia Kasirye, the county's public Health officer. This marks the highest number of measles cases in the region in recent years.

What makes this outbreak particularly concerning, Kasirye noted, is that previous cases were often linked to international travel. In this cluster, Health experts believe the virus may have been brought back by a single child who visited South Carolina, before spreading locally.
