A 61-year-old man is accused of assaulting a 71-year-old in a Minneapolis apartment building, leaving the elder man with severe brain injuries and a reportedly low chance of recovery.

According to a criminal complaint, the alleged assault occurred Sunday evening when the younger man punched the older in the face, causing significant head trauma. The victim was found unresponsive on the 15th floor, not breathing, with no pulse, blood coming from both ears, and loss of bodily functions.

Medics revived the man before taking him to a hospital, where he remains intubated and unconscious, the complaint states.

Police reviewed surveillance footage showing the altercation, which began when the 61-year-old attempted to walk around the 71-year-old, who was carrying a laundry basket. The younger man punched the older once in the face, according to the complaint, before exiting the building via elevator.

A security guard reported the 61-year-old said he
