Five firearms seized in swansea home after elementary school threat

Police in Swansea, Massachusetts uncovered five unregistered firearms and ammunition during a search of a residence Tuesday, following a report that a second-grader may have brought a handgun to their elementary school.

The incident began when school officials notified authorities that the student allegedly showed a gun to at least two peers at Mark G. Hoyle Elementary School on a previous day. An investigation led officers to obtain a search warrant for the student's home, which was executed Tuesday afternoon.

Upon entering the property, Swansea Police discovered the five firearms, which were stored unsecured, and determined that none of the residents possessed valid Firearms Identification Cards.

Two residents face weapons charges

The seized weapons will be the subject of a criminal complaint filed in Fall River District Court on Wednesday, charging two residents with weapons-related offenses. The identities of those involved have not been disclosed by police.

In response to the discovery, a police K-9 unit trained in detecting firearms and ammunition swept Hoyle Elementary School Tuesday night, but nothing was found. Swansea authorities do not believe there is an active threat to the school community, though they will maintain an increased police presence at the school on Wednesday.
