Severe weather expected in chicago area monday

A severe weather event is forecasted to hit the Chicago region on Monday, with two rounds of intense storms predicted to bring damaging winds, flash flooding, and a small risk of isolated tornadoes.

First round of storms to arrive between 11am-1pm

The first wave of showers and thunderstorms is expected to roll in between 11am and 1pm, impacting much of the area throughout the morning hours. The strength of these early storms is unclear and may impact the severity of the second round.

Second round poses greater severe weather threat

By mid-afternoon around 5pm, storms developing in the western and southwestern parts of the Midwest are forecast to organize into a line as they move east, bringing the second and more intense round of severe weather.

This second wave poses the greater danger, with all severe weather hazards possible, including damaging winds, flash flooding, hail, and a small chance of isolated tornadoes. Heavy rainfall is also a concern, with some areas potentially receiving over two inches, raising the risk for localized flooding.

Gusty south to southeast winds outside of the storms could reach 35 to 40 mph.
