Gb news owner deflects climate criticism, fuels doubts
Sir Paul Marshall, the proprietor of GB News and a man who professes Christian faith, appears to be doubling down on climate skepticism despite mounting pressure from faith leaders and growing public concern. Rather than address concerns regarding potential financial ties to the fossil fuel industry – a key demand from a recent open letter signed by over 120 Christian leaders – Marshall has instead launched a counter-offensive, dismissing the emerging consensus on climate action as ‘crumbling’.

A curious response to urgent warnings
The letter, publicized by The Guardian, rightfully questioned both Marshall's and GB News' transparency regarding any vested interests in fossil fuels, as well as demanding greater accountability from program presenters and guests. Marshall’s response, a missive to The Guardian arguing against the ‘net zero consensus,’ feels less like a considered rebuttal and more like a strategic deflection. The public, however, remains largely supportive of decarbonization efforts, a fact conveniently overlooked in Marshall’s pronouncements.
What's particularly unsettling is the timing. As climate models increasingly predict dangerous tipping points and energy prices continue to spike due to our reliance on volatile fossil fuels, GB News seems determined to perpetuate the status quo. It's a perplexing stance, especially given the readily available scientific and economic evidence – evidence that Marshall himself appears to be ignoring, as pointed out by Rev Dr Darrell Hannah of Operation Noah. Hannah notes the irony: “It is both curious and disheartening that as our dependence on expensive and volatile fossil fuels continues to lead to dangerous climate tipping points and wild spikes in energy prices, Sir Paul and GB News appear so dedicated to keeping our unsustainable status quo intact.
