Chile's historic bid to protect world's oceans
Chile is poised to make history by becoming the first country to protect over 50% of its waters, a move hailed as a beacon of hope for the world's oceans.

Conservation victory for juan fernández archipelago
Earlier this month, Chile's outgoing President Gabriel Boric signed an agreement to expand the marine protected area around the Juan Fernández Islands, a remote Pacific archipelago, by 337,000 square kilometers.
This will create the third-largest no-take zone globally, safeguarding a biological hotspot teeming with unique and endangered species.
The move comes after decades of tireless advocacy from pioneering oceanographer Sylvia Earle and the island's community of lobster fishermen, who have long practiced sustainable fishing practices.
