Saturday morning brought a deluge to the chicago metropolitan area, turning roadways into temporary waterways and leaving some drivers stranded as a south suburban underpass vanished beneath the rising waters. CBS meteorologist Kylee Miller’s warnings, broadcast throughout the morning, proved prescient. “The danger isn’t just the current,” she cautioned, “but the very real risk of significant vehicle damage. Ponded roadways can conceal potholes and debris, and the force of the water can easily disable a car.” The message was clear: avoid driving through flooded areas, no matter how shallow the water appears.

While the flash flood warning has passed, the saturation of the ground remains a concern.
