Denver police officer fires on suspect after carjacking attempt

Early hours in Denver saw a dramatic shootout unfold, as police responded to an alleged carjacking attempt.

Officers fire back at suspect in critical condition

Police Chief Ron Thomas revealed that officers were called to the 4300 block of S. Quebec Street just before 2 a.m. for reports of a possible carjacking. Upon arriving, they spoke with a key witness before heading to the area where the alleged theft was said to have taken place.

When the officers encountered a person matching the suspect's description, Thomas stated that the individual fired a round at the police. In response, one of the officers opened fire from a rifle, striking the suspect.

Authorities provided lifesaving measures until an ambulance arrived to transport the critically injured suspect to the hospital. Thankfully, no police personnel were harmed in the exchange.

As standard procedure, the Denver Police Department's homicide unit, Colorado State Patrol, and Colorado Bureau of Investigation are conducting a joint investigation into the incident. The findings will be handed over to the district attorney for review.
