Coral springs restaurant targeted in vandalism attack
A brazen act of vandalism struck the Hellenic Republic restaurant in Coral Springs early Saturday, leaving the popular establishment with shattered windows and a thwarted attempt at arson. The incident, which occurred on Atlantic Boulevard, has shocked the community and prompted an outpouring of support.

Restaurant owners face $11,000 repair bill after window smash
Owner Nikol Zarbalas reported that at least 10 front windows were smashed, creating a significant mess at the restaurant. “We’ve never had any issues with anyone, so this is really shocking,” Zarbalas stated. The vandals also attempted to deploy a smoke bomb, but the device failed to ignite. The restaurant has erected temporary plexiglass barriers while awaiting replacements.
Despite the damage, Zarbalas and her staff reopened over the weekend, fueled by a surge in reservations. “We had a lot of reservations. There was a baby shower to do, so we dined alfresco. It was open air,” she explained, emphasizing a refusal to be defeated by the attack. The Hellenic Republic, a fixture at its Atlantic Boulevard location for just a couple of months, has cultivated a loyal following in Coral Springs.
Local residents were visibly stunned by the damage. Elaine Marks, a member of Kings Point's SLED (Socialize-Learn-Educate-Discuss) group, witnessed the scene Tuesday. “I can’t figure it out. Who would do this?” she questioned. Rhoda Fishback echoed the sentiment, adding, “If it’s happening here, it could happen in our community.”
An online fundraising campaign has been launched to help the Hellenic Republic raise the estimated $11,000 needed for window repairs. Anyone with information regarding the vandalism is urged to contact the Coral Springs Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS. The restaurant's resilience speaks volumes about the spirit of Coral Springs.
