Drunk Driver Allegedly Kills Woman in New Castle, Delaware

A 54-year-old woman was killed Saturday night in New Castle, Delaware, after being struck by a vehicle driven by a man allegedly under the influence, police reported. Samuel Larkin, 42, of New Castle, has been charged with vehicular homicide of the second degree, driving under the influence, and failure to stop at a stop sign in connection with the incident.

The Fatal Collision

The crash occurred around 10:50 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. Route 13 and Schafer Boulevard. According to Delaware State Police, the woman was traveling northbound on Route 13 in the right lane, approaching Schafer Boulevard. Simultaneously, Larkin was driving a Mazda 6 westbound on Schafer Boulevard, also approaching Route 13.

Police stated that Larkin failed to stop at the stop sign and subsequently collided with the woman, who was operating a motorcycle. The woman's identity has not yet been released by authorities.

Investigation and Charges

Following the crash, Larkin exhibited signs of impairment and subsequently failed sobriety tests, police said. He was taken into custody and formally charged. Delaware State Police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.

Route 13 and Schafer Boulevard were temporarily closed for approximately three hours following the collision to facilitate the investigation and cleanup efforts. The roadways have since been reopened.
