Pet sitter acquitted in fatal animal neglect case

A Sunny Isles Beach pet sitter, Antonella Rivoir, 22, has been found not guilty on two felony counts of animal cruelty resulting in injury, according to a verdict delivered on March 12th. The case, which garnered significant attention after the death of one of the dogs in her care, is now closed.

Jury finds rivoir not guilty in animal cruelty case

The charges stemmed from an investigation initiated in 2023 following concerns raised by the homeowner who hired Rivoir to care for five dogs and a cat for approximately a month. The homeowner reported issues with accessing home surveillance footage, prompting a housekeeper to discover the Animals in distressed conditions – with animal waste present and several dogs underweight.

Investigators say two of the dogs, Pomeranians Daisy (8) and Lucy (13), required veterinary treatment. Tragically, Daisy succumbed to her injuries. Lucy survived after receiving care for severe dehydration and other ailments. Rivoir was apprehended in September 2023.

The trial revealed a disturbing scene at the residence, painting a picture of neglect. While the jury acquitted Rivoir on all counts, the case serves as a stark reminder of the responsibilities entrusted to those caring for vulnerable Animals. The verdict offers a sense of closure for the homeowner, but does little to alleviate the loss of Daisy.
