The Fiorentinos, who reside on Springdale Road, discovered the peacock while making their morning coffee. “I just come down to make my coffee, look out the window and there I see that bird, and I’m like, I never saw that before,” recounted Jean Fiorentino. The couple, who have affectionately named the bird Pete, have been observing the peacock's habits, noting its fondness for birdseed and cat food. They believe it roosts in their garage and has been happily exploring their 300-year-old farmhouse and surrounding grounds.

Vivian Fiorentino mentioned they've seen other wildlife on their property, including vultures and owls, but nothing quite as striking. “We have had a couple of vultures because we’re on the edge of the woods. We’ve had some owls,” she said. While the elaborate bird is native to regions like Sri Lanka, India, and Southeast Asia, the Fiorentinos wonder how it ended up in the relatively cold climate of New Jersey.

The sighting has sparked conversations on social media, with several Cherry Hill residents inquiring if anyone is missing a peacock. CBS News Philadelphia contacted local authorities, who confirmed they were aware of the situation. The Fiorentinos are keen to reunite Pete with his owner, suggesting he seems comfortable on their property. “It seems friendly enough that it might actually be somebody’s pet, and I would like to return it to them,” Vivian Fiorentino explained. “He likes the area, kind of quiet,” added Jean Fiorentino.

The Cherry Hill Township Building indicated they are monitoring the situation. The presence of the peacock is a curious anomaly in this suburban landscape, a splash of exotic color in an otherwise familiar setting. The Fiorentinos' unexpected houseguest serves as a vivid reminder of nature’s unpredictable journeys.
