K-9 officer shot, handler's plea echoes as city celebrates recovery

A Fort Lauderdale police K-9, Appie, was critically wounded Saturday night after a confrontation with a burglary suspect, Christian Bouie. The incident, captured on newly released video, reveals a harrowing scene of pursuit and a desperate race to save the canine officer’s life.

The footage shows officers engaging in a lengthy tactical operation to locate Bouie, utilizing a SWAT team and heat-signature technology from a helicopter. After nearly an hour, officers finally cornered him in a tree. Appie immediately engaged, sustaining a gunshot wound to his upper left arm.
