A massive cockfighting operation has been dismantled in Parker County, Texas, with authorities arresting a man and rescuing hundreds of birds subjected to cruel treatment.

Ernesto Rocha Ramirez, 43, faces charges of cockfighting and animal cruelty after a three-week investigation uncovered the illicit enterprise at his property. Animal control officers discovered over 200 chicken coops, with numerous dead, burned and injured birds found amidst evidence of systematic abuse.

The birds had been subjected to live plucking, having their spurs cut excessively short, and being fed steroids to enhance their fighting capabilities. A specialized training structure was also seized, featuring rooster decoys and equipment used to condition birds for cockfighting.

Twenty-eight roosters and 14 hens were initially seized, with a veterinarian determining they had endured
